Description
What holds societies together when markets are globalised, working conditions are made more flexible and social security becomes fragile? Between economic rationalities and growing inequalities, the concept of solidarity is gaining new relevance. But what does solidarity mean in an economic order characterised by competition?
In this seminar, we will address the question of how solidarity can become effective as a moral principle and practical attitude in business ethics contexts. We will examine historical, philosophical and economic perspectives and analyse current challenges – from social inequality or corporate social responsibility to global crises such as climate change and migration. The aim is to critically reflect on normative principles, practical areas of conflict and the transformative potential of solidarity-based action in business.
Learning outcomes for this seminar:
Students and Participants
• analyse the ethical foundations of solidarity-based action in an economic context
• evaluate the relevance of solidarity in corporate decisions and strategies
• reflect on the practical implications of solidarity-based economic activity in a global and local context,• develop recommendations for action for managers with regard to ethical and social responsibility
This seminar can count towards the core module 2 of the „Weltethos in Unternehmen und Organisationen“ certificate.
