Our tips for summer

Summer gives us time – for family, for disconnecting from the daily grind, for discoveries off the beaten track. Here at the Global Ethic Institute, too, this time of year is an opportunity to pause for thought, reflect and gain new perspectives. We have put together a few suggestions for you to help you find inspiration in your quiet summer moments – little impulses to ponder, smile about or reflect upon. We hope you enjoy a wonderful summer!

Those who enjoy immersing themselves in the world of Greek mythology should read Hayne’s retelling of well-known female figures. The author not only explores the different receptions of Medea, Phaedra and others, but also builds bridges to the representation and self-image of women up to the present day.

For anyone interested in interreligious dialogue, diversity of values and the search for a common ethos, Haidt’s work offers not only profound insights into the psychology of human morality, but also practical approaches on how we can find a respectful coexistence despite our moral differences – a core concern of the Global Ethic Project.

Without dialog, no successful coexistence, no resilient democracy, no peace is possible. So far so good. But in order for it to fulfill this function, the ability to listen well is needed above all. Bernhard Pörksen describes wonderfully in his new book and in this TedTalk how we often listen incorrectly and what a better, democracy-promoting practice could look like.
