Global Ethic Institute mourns the death of founder Karl Schlecht

c: Holzwart-NTZ

Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Dipl. Ing. Karl Schlecht, the founder, initiator and promoter of the Global Ethic Institute, passed away on August 21, 2024 after a short and serious illness. Without him, the Global Ethic Institute for the promotion of ethical language and action skills, for business ethics education for students at the University of Tübingen and for the creation of a Global Ethic Ambassador Community would not exist. Without the reliable support of the Karl Schlecht Foundation, we would not have been able to fulfill our founding purpose of basic research and teaching for the scientific foundation of the idea of a global ethic in society and the global economy in the sense of promoting a dialogue between religions and cultures in accordance with the fields of work of the Global Ethic Foundation. We are forever grateful to Karl Schlecht for this.

Karl Schlecht felt inspired by Hans Küng (1928-2021) and the global ethic idea. He wanted to promote the good coexistence of people of different origins, religions and world views. And he was prepared to use the proceeds from the sale of his former company to sustainably promote science in research and teaching. In this he was and remains a role model. We will honor his memory.

He was always very active in bringing his entrepreneurial perspective to the academic world, challenging and inspiring all the people and institutions involved, from the Global Ethic Foundation to the University of Tübingen and all those who work at the Institute.

We will keep his vision and commitment to global ethics in business and society alive through our activities at the Global Ethic Institute. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.
