It was a large-scale event that took place in Lima from November 13 to 16. This year’s Apec Summit, the Asia-Pacific Economic Community (Apec), brought together the leaders of global politics and business. These included Joe Biden and Xi Jinping. The Apec group brings together 21 countries around the Pacific. In addition to the USA, these include China, Russia, Japan and South Korea. They want to promote economic growth by reducing trade barriers. After all, almost 40 percent of the world’s population live in the Apec states.

The summit was about a world in transition to a non-hegemonic world order. In the presence of 21 heads of state, among other things, the port of Chancay was inaugurated, which shortens freight times to Shanghai in China by 10 days. As part of a delegation trip with the PAGSID project of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), Ulrich Hemel, Director of the Global Ethic Institute, spoke about “Inclusive development and social innovation: Why global ethic values can be a driver of innovation” to over 1000 delegation participants at this APEC summit. Ulrich Hemel comments: “The interest of the people was incredibly high. We need a new image of business that is also attractive to stakeholders from the Global South. Companies must not only be thought of as profit machines, but also as social vehicles with a clear social responsibility!”
