Change in the management of the Global Ethic Institute

Dr Christopher Gohl is the new Managing Director of the Global Ethic Institute as of 1 April 2025. The previous Managing Director, Dr Bernd Villhauer, is moving to the newly created role of Senior Advisor Finance and will deepen his work in the field of financial ethics. He will also continue to host and moderate public events organised by the Institute.

Dr Christopher Gohl has been researching and teaching as a political scientist on the emergence of values, norms and virtues, on questions of business ethics and on learning democracy since the Institute was founded in 2011. Born in Stuttgart, he has a wealth of experience in politics and business, including as a member of the German Bundestag. “Global ethics means everyday responsibility for our fellow world, the environment and posterity. At the Global Ethic Institute, our team not only demonstrates what this means for companies, organisations and civil society, but also for studies and research,” says Gohl. “I am looking forward to further developing our educational and dialogue offerings in a leading position. We want to offer exemplary places of learning not only in Tübingen, but also in Berlin and Brussels. And we want to make the institute even more attractive for young academics.”

Institute Director Goldschmidt and Dr Gohl are grateful for Dr Bernd Villhauer’s ten successful years of management at the Global Ethic Institute, in particular for setting up the Global Ethic Pitch Day and his pioneering work in the field of financial ethics. In the future, the trained industrial business management assistant will deepen these topics as Senior Advisor Finance. ‘I am looking forward to strengthening the relevance of the global ethic idea in the financial sector and visibly anchoring the Institute in this key field of activity.’

He will also represent the institute at events. ‘We are delighted that he will continue to inspire us as a philosopher and enrich the discussions in urban society as a knowledgeable host and moderator,’ says Nils Goldschmidt.
