Professional Ethics in AI

Humans program artificial intelligence and are thereby shaping intelligent systems. With what perception of humanity and ethics are they building this, and to what extent are they aware of ethical challenges and risks? What can offer orientation for developers to sharpen their sensitivity for social responsibility within innovative enthusiasm for AI?

A joint initiative of the Global Ethic Institute, Cyber Valley, and certified Global Ethic Ambassadors from the IT industry wanted to start the dialogue around these questions. Since July 2023, guidelines for professional ethics in the field of AI have been jointly developed to help better assess the ethical consequences of AI for the people who are building and using intelligent systems.

We welcome your comments and suggestions, as this document is meant to serve as a catalyst for additional discussion and is a work-in-progress initiative.

The Global Ethics Institute, together with Cyber Valley, is planning a virtual roundtable on “Professional Ethics in AI” on the 24th of April 2024, where the guidelines will be discussed with researchers, practitioners, and educators in the field of machine learning. The interested public is also very welcome to attend. The exact date is yet to be announced.
